150. From Struggles to Strength; Relationship Survival Guide

podcast Sep 14, 2023

Today's episode is one that hits close to home for me. We're going to talk about maintaining relationships successfully while raising autistic children. As a Master Certified Life and Parent Coach, I've made it my mission to help families like yours navigate these challenging waters and I'm also here to tell you that it's possible to thrive as a couple and as parents raising autistic children.

I’m going to share with you the top 10 reasons that relationships tend to fail when you're raising autistic children.

And more importantly, I'm going to offer some relationship-saving strategies to help you stay connected and on the same parenting page with your partner.

So, grab a cup of coffee, take a deep breath, and join me.

Neglecting your own well-being can lead to burnout and resentment, affecting your relationship.  Those feelings of resentment can build up if one of you feels like you're carrying the majority of the caregiving.

One of you might be more accepting of the diagnosis, while the other may struggle to come to terms with it or even adamantly resist it. And then what happens is that this discrepancy in coping mechanisms can create tension and misunderstandings.  Share your fears, your hopes, and your concerns about your child's future.

Coming to terms with your child's diagnosis can be a long and challenging road.  Be patient with each other, recognizing that you may be on different timelines in processing the diagnosis.

By understanding, respecting, and supporting parents like us, you can contribute to a more inclusive and compassionate world for all individuals, regardless of their differences.
